Shop My Closet: Missoni for Target

Posted on September 15, 2011

If you hadn’t heard of Missoni before Tuesday, you’ve likely heard of it by now. If you *still* haven’t, well, then we’d probably make terrible friends. Like the rest of the world of luxury label hunting bargain shoppers, I too was counting down the day until Missoni and Target launched their exclusive, limited edition collection on September 14 – now known by many as Black Tuesday. For months I counted the days off of my calendar, waiting for the big day. How foolish I was to believe that the rest of the country (and other parts of the world) wasn’t doing the same. The night before the launch, I laughed at people talking about lining up early in the morning to get in first.…

Favorite Finds Friday: Bewitched, Bedazzled, Bejeweled

Posted on September 2, 2011

I’m not really very ‘good’ at jewelry. I tend to forget I own it, which means I forget to wear it, which means I usually don’t buy it because it’s pointless. In addition, I’m pretty picky about jewelry. I tend to like very clean and classic pieces, with a little bit of an edge. However, this week there were a number of pieces that caught my eye and have inspired me to give wearing jewelry another try. You’ll notice I’m not interested in real diamonds or other fine gems because to be honest? I don’t think I’m responsible enough for those yet. (I’ve lost more CZ stud earrings than I care to admit – they’re slippery little suckers.) Here are my favorite jewelry…

It’s been one of those weeks. You know, the kind where it feels like your on a roller-coaster that just won’t stop? I got through it on humor, taking care of myself (lots of water and a little collagen never hurts), an occasional reward, and look forward to the future (even if the only thing I’m sure it holds is a trip to Target). What gets you through a rough week? 1. Prèt-à-porTEA ($16) * 2. Michael Kors Double Wrap Chain Bracelet ($145) * 3. L’Oreal Paris Collagen Filler Wrinkle Treatment ($10.98) 4. Trader Joe’s Pretzel Thins ($2.99) 5. Missoni for Target Wine Box ($9.99) and Tags ($2.99) * * These items not yet available.

September Issues

Posted on August 25, 2011

Shhhh. Listen closely. That sound you hear? Those are the voices of mail carriers across the United States cursing the month of September. Why? Well I suspect it has something to do with these. It’s the week of the September issues, which means at some point in the next several days I will be locking myself down (sans glass of wine as I’m on a detox this week  ::sad trombone:: ) with these suckers. I thought it would be interesting to calculate just how many pages I’ll be looking at on this little adventure through the magazine world. And because I’m a nerd, I broke it down for you. Favorite Finds Friday: Berry Happy Weekend

Posted on August 19, 2011

This weekend, I’m headed to Chicago for my dear friend Kate’s bachelorette party!  (I’ll be a bridesmaid for the second time in my life, so expect to hear more about that in the coming months.) My nails are polished up in this sultry Bahama Mama color and don’t tell Beau but I *will* be hunting down the shoes and/or the handbag if I can help it. Earlier this week, my editor and fabulous friend turned me on to an Aviation cocktail made with Creme De Violete. When made into a drink it, the color appears much lighter…we couldn’t get enough of it! Literally. My head still hurts. So, I’m remedying that with this tasty Blueberry White Tea that I discovered at lunch today.…

While I’m still enjoying every last bit of summer, I can see that fall is trying to edge it’s way in. Right now I’m eyeing transitional pieces like this denim jacket and long sleeve dress that will take me from summer to fall. I’m also feeling a lot of berry this week apparently, I picked up this lip pencil and oversized clutch that will be perfect a perfect pop to my favorite black A-line dress. As for the cheddar bunnies? All I can say is you had better lock yours up because I WILL hunt them down and eat the whole box in one sitting. Happy Friday, loverlies! 1. Levi’s Classic Trucker Jacket ($79.50) 2. Oversized Clutch in Fuschia ($40) 3. Annie’s Homegrown Cheddar Bunnies ($3.29)…

Falling in Love with Mad Men

Posted on August 11, 2011

I fought hard against jumping on board with the AMC smash-hit series, ‘Mad Men’. Beau and I attempted to watch the pilot episode, got bored half-way through and never turned it on again…until last week. I could hardly stand it anymore, everything was all ‘Mad Men this’, and ‘Mad Men’ that – I caved. Now I’m itching for Beau to come back over so we can finish up Season One; apparently, it gets really juicy in Season Two. As I did with the show, I tried to ignore the hype surrounding the Mad Men Collection for Banana Republic which launched (online and in stores) today – you’ll never guess what happened. I fell freaking madly in love, that’s what. Take a look, I mean,…

You know sometimes when bloggers suck? That was me this week. It’s not as though I’ve been lying around eating Bon Bons all day, okay? (I did eat an excessive amount of cheddar bunnies one afternoon but I was still working so that doesn’t count.) I’ve been hard at work with freelance writing gigs and getting ready for BlogHer ’11! Still, I thought maybe I could make it up to you by sharing what I’ve been most excited about when I’ve had a spare minute to actually note my feelings. 1. This limited edition candle duo plays off of the masculine/feminine, ying/yang, rose/euros thing. I figure it’s extra feng shui points if your candle scents are balanced. Kuntzel and Deygas Roseros candles by diptyque Paris…

Favorite Finds Friday: A Bootload from Nordstrom

Posted on July 22, 2011

One of my favorite things about summer is the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. It means Fall (my favorite time of year) is just around the corner and that I’m going to score some new clothes at a stellar price. I may or may not have gone a little overboard this year in the shoe department, contrary to the fact that I’ve really never been a big ‘shoe lover’ >>GASP<< I know. Maybe it’s the child in me lusting for a new fall wardrobe for school, or maybe I just like the part where I get to go behind the curtain during pre-sale. Either way, it’s EXCITING. Here are my favorite finds from the sale – I shall not admit to whether I purchased one, or…

Opportunity in Indianapolis (Monthly)

Posted on July 15, 2011

{You may recall this write up from Indianapolis Monthly April ’11 – c’est moi on the far left!} Before I ever considered moving to Indianapolis, I was an Indianapolis Monthly reader. My dad was living in Indy part-time and I think we became subscribers as one of the many methods of trying to convince my mother to leave Michigan. She’s still there. I, however, have been in Indianapolis almost six years now and am still a faithful Indianapolis Monthly reader. And, like a real grown-up, I even have my own subscription. So you can imagine my excitement when I received an email from them after Metromix ceased print publication and my column ended. Would I like to contribute as a style writer? WOULD I!…
